With the rise of television shows and the increasingly social Internet, baking has become a past-time that is suddenly enjoying a new wave of popularity, and with good reason. It’s an activity that lends itself to creativity, socialising, increasing awareness of nutrition and a sense of time-keeping; there’s even an argument.

With a whole array of resources out there, knowing where to start in your quest to become a master baker can seem a confusing task. So, with this in mind, we’ve prepared a handy-go-to guide for all you beginners out there detailing the best online resources for all your baking needs!

Chapter 1

Get your bearings

Getting the basics right is important and baking is an understanding how flavours complement one another, how measurements work and a good sense of timing. Baking is calculation and patience and it will not come intuitively. If you are approaching the art of baking for the first time, your learning aids need to be accessible and fun.


 
 

Chapter 2

Measurements

The science of measurements might actually be a much less exact science than you would think. That said, if you are going to experiment and get creative, you need to learn the basics of baking and, along with that, accurate measurements. Cupcakes

If you’ve mastered the recipes for the above, chances are you’d be feeling fairly confident by now. You might be ready to start baking for special occasions, thereby improving your range and creative flair.


 
 

Chapter 9

Advanced techniques and cake decorating

Once you get into your stride, you might find yourself in a position where you want to try more advanced baking methodologies. For example, meringue is a versatile baking pastry ingredient, for both the more basic pastries, and more advanced dishes. Pies and tarts are also a great way to improve versatility and precision in your baking. Finally, cake decorating is a useful secondary skill, and allows you to become a baker with a flair for design!
